Doritos is making history by launching its iconic Cool Ranch flavor into space for the first time. In partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® and the Polaris Dawn mission, Doritos has created a limited-edition minis Cool Ranch Zero Gravity Flavored Tortilla Chip specially designed for astronauts to enjoy in zero gravity. The chips, produced as minis, are engineered to keep their zesty flavor from floating away, allowing for an out-of-this-world snacking experience.
This unique collaboration is not just about sending snacks into space—it’s about raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer research and treatment. Doritos has pledged a $500,000 donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to help further its mission of finding cures and saving children across the globe. Fans of the brand can also contribute to the cause by visiting StJude.org/DoritosInSpace to make a donation and enter for a chance to try the limited-edition space-bound Cool Ranch chips, which come in glow-in-the-dark packaging.
“With every new Doritos innovation, we hope to encourage snackers to pave new paths,” said Tina Mahal, Senior Vice President of Marketing at PepsiCo Foods North America. “The Cool Ranch Zero Gravity chips embrace what it means to live life boldly by pioneering a creative way to raise awareness for such an important cause.”
The Polaris Dawn mission, which is expected to launch no earlier than August 26, 2024, will carry the space chips beyond Earth’s atmosphere. According to Chris Bellinger, Chief Creative Officer of PepsiCo Foods North America, the mission represents Doritos’ commitment to delivering bold experiences in even the most unexpected places. “The limitless possibilities of space inspired us to push the boundaries of what’s possible. This mission is a testament to our commitment to delivering bold flavors, even in the most unexpected places,” Bellinger explained.
Richard C. Shadyac Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, expressed gratitude for the partnership, stating, “We are deeply grateful to Doritos for its generous support that inspires communities and consumers everywhere to unite for a bold cause: helping treat and defeat childhood cancer. Through this partnership, Doritos and the Polaris Dawn crew are being catalysts for change by helping St. Jude raise survival rates for more of the 400,000 kids around the world with cancer every year.”
For fans who are unable to snag the limited-edition space chips, the classic version of Doritos minis Cool Ranch Flavored Tortilla Chips remains available year-round at retailers nationwide. The partnership between Doritos, St. Jude, and Polaris Dawn represents a bold new chapter in both space exploration and philanthropic efforts, combining innovative snack design with a meaningful cause that will impact the lives of children worldwide.
