White House Pursues Ambitious Goals to Eradicate Hunger and Elevate Health by 2030

In an effort to address food insecurity and reduce diet related diseases by 2030, the White House is hosting a virtual event aimed at securing commitments from various sectors. This event follows the first Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health held in over 50 years, where the administration unveiled a National Strategy consisting of five pillars to improve food access and affordability, integrate nutrition and health, empower consumers to make healthier choices, support physical activity, and enhance food security research.

Scheduled for Friday, March 24, the event will be streamed online, allowing participants to watch and engage remotely. The White House is calling on all sectors to make commitments that will aid in implementing the National Strategy.

This initiative builds on initial commitments made by stakeholders during the Conference last fall. Notable companies involved in these efforts include Albertsons, Chobani, Danone North America, DoorDash, Google, Kroger, The Rockefeller Foundation, The James Beard Foundation, and FoodCorps.

Chobani, known for its focus on healthy food, has pledged to help schools across the country meet child nutrition standards and encourages other businesses to do the same. The company plans to “adopt” schools in New York and Twin Falls, Idaho, collaborating with educators to create a playbook to combat child hunger.

Google has committed to reducing food waste by 50% per employee and ensuring zero waste goes to landfills by 2025. The company is working with food rescue entities to ensure surplus food reaches those in need.

Danone North America is focused on improving the nutritional profile of its products while investing in education for consumers, shoppers, and healthcare providers. Additionally, they are pledging support for community-based impact programs that aim to improve access to healthy foods and advance nutrition research.

DoorDash has partnered with 18 cities across the United States to address transportation barriers to healthy food. Through initiatives like Project DASH, the company facilitates delivery of food pantry parcels, accepting SNAP/EBT benefits as payment.

These collective efforts represent a true dedication to supporting the administration’s call to action in addressing hunger, nutrition, and health. By working together across sectors, these companies aim to make significant progress improving food access, reducing food waste, enhancing nutrition education, and overcoming barriers to healthy food for vulnerable populations.
