June 20th Summit Highlights Rising Momentum of Food as Medicine Movement

The concept of ‘food as medicine’ is gaining significant momentum, and Food Tank is playing a crucial role in bringing this transformative idea to the forefront. In a remarkable collaboration, Food Tank is partnering with the White House Office of Public Engagement and various other stakeholders for an upcoming summit.

Scheduled for June 20th, the summit, themed “Advancing Food is Medicine Approaches,” will be livestreamed, inviting viewers to join in from across the globe. Registrations are currently open for this event, which will run from 12PM to 4PM ET.

This summit marks a collaboration with the Biden-Harris Administration’s National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, Stop & Shop, and Traditional Medicinals. It features a notable lineup of speakers, including U.S. Congress members Jake Auchincloss, Katherine Clark, Jim McGovern, Seth Moulton, Ayanna Pressley, Lori Trahan, and Senators Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren, among others.

The event will cover a range of topics, from expanding nutrition education in healthcare to addressing gaps in nutrition and food security research. It also aims to explore how the nonprofit and private sectors can further advance the ‘food is medicine’ interventions.

In addition to the upcoming summit, there are plans for another event in collaboration with the White House and Farmers Fridge on August 2nd in Chicago, Illinois. More details about this event will be shared soon.

Food Tank also encourages its community to spread the word about these significant events through social media, providing a graphics kit for easy sharing.

The momentum around the ‘food as medicine’ concept and the involvement of key players like the White House and Food Tank indicate a growing recognition of the critical role food plays in public health and wellness.
