Charting the Future of Farming: A Blueprint for Sustainable Agriculture

In a landmark collaboration, The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), and Food Systems for the Future (FSF) have unveiled a transformative report entitled “Transforming Agrifood Systems for People, Planet, and Prosperity.” This trailblazing document underscores the urgent necessity of introducing diverse, system-wide, science-driven solutions to expedite the transformation of our food systems and confront the multifaceted challenges presented by the current climate crisis.

The report brings into the spotlight the essential role of reshaping agrifood systems in safeguarding nutrition, public health, and wellbeing while concurrently addressing the accelerating environmental crisis. It illuminates the intricate predominance of the worldwide food predicament, spotlighting the vital need for a diverse spectrum of solutions capable of adeptly navigating the complex interplay between climate, health, and livelihood objectives.

This multi-faceted approach is exemplified through a variety of case studies, which introduce the novel Impact Fingerprint methodology. This tool takes into account different actors, timeframes, and geographic spans of initiatives. The report culminates in a bold call-to-action for dominant agrifood system participants – including policymakers, private financiers, and businesses – urging them to converge in the creation of a united front dedicated to sparking the transformation of agrifood systems.

Partnering for NYC Climate Week, EDF, FSF, and The Friedman School are set to host a report debut event on September 18th, 2023. Attendees are invited to register for the event HERE to gain insights into the multifaceted transformation of agrifood systems in the face of the climate crisis.
