Food Bank of Western Massachusetts Still Grappling with Pandemic Related Supply Chain Issues

Food Bank of Western Massachusetts faces ongoing challenges as it strives to support its network of member agencies, shelters, and meal programs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Christina Maxwell, Program Director, expressed the chaos that ensued from the pandemic and highlighted various obstacles faced by the food bank including inflation, a shortage of truck drivers, lack of pandemic-specific grants and the termination of COVID Supplemental Assistance Program benefits (SNAP). One of the most significant issues is the decline in food supplies from the federal government, particularly through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).
