Fight Hunger. Spark Change. Marks a Decade of Nurturing Communities Across the U.S.

Walmart’s commitment to serving communities and helping people live better extends to their efforts in providing access to affordable, healthy food. The annual Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign, now celebrating its 10th year, plays a significant role in their partnership with Feeding America. Through this campaign, Walmart has generated over $165 million, resulting in nearly 1.7 billion meals for those facing hunger.

Walmart’s contributions go beyond donating unsold food and philanthropic grants. They support retail food rescue, cold-chain capacity, and innovative technology solutions to enhance food security in communities. The Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign runs from April 10 to May 8 and involves associates, customers, members, and 34 suppliers across Walmart and Sam’s Club. Customers can contribute by donating at the register or purchasing participating items, with suppliers donating the monetary equivalent of at least one meal or more based on the purchase.

Funds raised through the campaign support Feeding America‘s network of local food banks, enabling them to reach people facing hunger through various programs such as drive-thru, mobile, and school pantries, as well as initiatives specifically designed for children and seniors. Walmart’s scale, with over 5,000 stores and clubs nationwide, positions them to make a significant impact on food insecurity in the United States. They provide access to low-cost, nutritious food through their various retail channels.

In addition to their contributions to Feeding America, the Walmart Foundation provides philanthropic grants to organizations working to reach underserved communities to promote nutrition education. They have also developed nutrition standards and labeling for Walmart products and invested in culturally relevant nutrition education programs.

To further support healthier food access and food security, the Walmart Foundation established a community of practice comprising nearly 50 organizations and advocates for positive change at the local and national level. The Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign is part of their broader efforts to address these issues and make a difference in communities across the country.
