City Harvest Kicks Off Hunger Action Month

City Harvest has launched Hunger Action Month, joining forces with various partners to raise awareness and tackle food insecurity in New York City. This initiative includes collaborations with both local businesses and national brands.

Key partners include Bank of America, Bloomberg, Inc., and Target, each contributing through donations, employee volunteer programs, and promotional campaigns. Bank of America supports City Harvest’s Mobile Markets, which distribute free, fresh produce to underserved populations. Bloomberg staffs volunteer events while Target aids with food donations and financial contributions.

Restaurants and chefs are also pivotal to Hunger Action Month. The “Bid Against Hunger” auction features exclusive dining experiences and culinary events, with proceeds supporting City Harvest’s food rescue efforts. Renowned chefs like Eric Ripert and Michael White contribute their talents, offering unique dining packages to the highest bidders.

City Harvest’s partnerships extend to grassroots community organizations, enhancing their capacity to serve local populations. These collaborations ensure that donated food reaches those most in need, bolstering the network of food pantries and soup kitchens across the city.

The combined efforts during Hunger Action Month aim to collect millions of pounds of food and generate significant awareness about hunger in New York City. City Harvest’s Executive Director Jilly Stephens emphasizes the importance of these partnerships, stating, “We rely on the generosity and support of our partners to help us rescue and deliver food to New Yorkers in need.”

The initiative also includes public awareness campaigns, encouraging New Yorkers to take action through donations, volunteering, and advocating for hunger relief. City Harvest’s multifaceted approach underscores its commitment to not only addressing immediate food needs but also fostering long-term solutions to food insecurity.
