As the holiday season approaches, the spirit of giving takes on a special meaning through Astor Services’ Adopt-A-Family program. This initiative, running more than three decades, has been a source of joy and support for families struggling to fulfill even the basic needs of their children, let alone their holiday wishes.
This year, Astor Services aims to distribute gift cards to over 2,100 children, allowing parents the opportunity to purchase necessary items and maybe a few festive treats. This gesture of kindness not only fulfills practical needs but also brings a sense of normalcy and celebration to families during the holiday season. The impact of such generosity is profound, as one Astor parent expressed, “To see the joy on my child’s face when they unwrapped the gift they were hoping for is priceless”.
Contributions to the Adopt-A-Family program are primarily monetary, enabling Astor Services to provide these essential gift cards. Individuals, corporations, and organizations are encouraged to donate, with options for groups and organizations to be recognized for their contributions. For those interested in donating, checks can be made payable to “Astor Services” and mailed to their office in Rhinebeck, NY. Additionally, companies with matching gift programs can double the impact of their donations by requesting a match.
The program is specifically designed for children and families who are already part of Astor’s various services. Parents with children enrolled in Astor’s programs are encouraged to contact the relevant Astor program for enrollment in the Adopt-A-Family initiative.
As the festive season unfolds, Astor Services’ Adopt-A-Family program stands as a testament to the power of community and the difference that collective kindness can make in the lives of those in need. The simple act of giving, as this program shows, can light up the holiday season with hope, joy, and a sense of togetherness.
