Food Lion Donates $1.5 Million to Support Disaster Relief After Hurricane Helene

Food Lion has announced a $1.5 million donation to aid communities affected by Hurricane Helene, as part of its ongoing commitment to support the towns and cities it serves. The donation will help provide disaster relief and recovery resources to those impacted by the storm. Customers are also invited to contribute by making donations at the register through October 30. The funds will be distributed by the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation – partnering with local feeding organizations to assist with recovery and rebuilding efforts.

Food Lion is also providing immediate support through partnerships with organizations like the American Red Cross and World Central Kitchen to distribute food, emergency shelter, and other relief supplies. Food Lion is also working closely with local disaster response teams, government agencies, hospitals, and community feeding partners to deliver nonperishable snacks, water, gift cards, and other essential supplies to shelters and emergency service centers. To date, Food Lion Feeds has donated over 280,000 pounds of food and water to help meet the critical needs of those affected by the hurricane.

“Caring for our neighbors and the communities we serve is central to our culture at Food Lion,” said Meg Ham, President of Food Lion. “Our hearts go out to those impacted by Hurricane Helene, and we want our communities to know that Food Lion is here to help. By working together with our customers, we see the strength and resilience of our communities in supporting those who need it most during this difficult time.”

Founded in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation supports hunger relief efforts across the areas Food Lion serves. Each year, the foundation awards more than $1 million in grants to over 500 local feeding partners. The latest contribution to disaster relief is part of the company’s broader mission to fight food insecurity.

Food Lion – a grocery retailer based in Salisbury, N.C. – operates more than 1,100 stores across 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states. The company has long been committed to hunger relief, establishing Food Lion Feeds in 2014 to combat food insecurity in the region. Since then, the initiative has donated over 1.2 billion meals, with a goal of reaching 1.5 billion meals by 2025. For more information, visit foodlion.com.
