SNAP E&T Initiative Opens Doors and Promotes Employment

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) plays a crucial role in assisting low-income workers to afford food, as many are employed in jobs with low wages, unreliable hours, and lack basic benefits like paid sick leave. USDA’s SNAP Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) program aims to support these individuals by equipping them with professional skills and connections to enhance their employment prospects.

While the responsibility of operating SNAP E&T programs lies with SNAP state agencies, they collaborate closely with various partners who possess expertise in developing robust employment programs. These partners include the Department of Labor, local job centers, and trained SNAP E&T professionals. In 2020, USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service granted a SNAP E&T National Partnership Grant to the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) to provide technical assistance to state and local workforce development boards, enabling them to become SNAP E&T providers. The NAWB has since continued its efforts to expand the reach of SNAP E&T.

USDA is actively engaged in fostering these partnerships to ensure that SNAP E&T participants can access job and career opportunities that offer a pathway out of poverty. For further information on the SNAP E&T program, interested individuals can visit USDA SNAP E&T.
